RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – BridgeBrazil, a leader in language courses, has launched an exclusive English-language class for the oil and gas sector in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM). The course focuses on specific work environment topics, providing students with the necessary language skills for their work in Brazil’s booming industry.
The course will run from April 30th to June 20th and registration is currently open. The material is tailored for professionals working in the oil and gas sector who are in need of improving their English language skills for their daily activity.
The online class takes place on virtual onshore and offshore rigs, so students engage in their working environment while acquiring the necessary language skills to succeed in international oil and gas companies.
Monica Szwarc, country manager of BridgeBrazil, explains the focus of the class, “Rio is all about oil and gas and we’ve seen the increase on [expatriates] from the segment coming to us to learn Portuguese because of oil and gas projects, and they would tell us they were being hired precisely because they spoke English bearing in mind the specific vocabulary of the segment. They would also say their Brazilian colleagues were sometimes even better than they were “technically” as Brazil is at the cutting edge of this industry. It was obvious for us that there was a market for this!” she adds.
The course is especially suitable for those who do not have the time to attend regular language classes during a set schedule, but are looking to improve their English to excel in business.
The virtual environment uses the latest 3D technology to simulate authentic work activities on an oil rig and provides an interactive learning experience. The activities are designed to give students a maximum exposure to English.
The course is structured into several modules covering topics such as rig design and construction, oil and the environment, geo-science and seismic data, business development and health and safety on the rig.
The teachers are all highly qualified native speakers familiar with the oil and gas sector, and they provide personalized, written feedback after every class. English learners from levels B1 to C1 (Intermediate to Advanced) can participate.
Helio Blak, Managing Director of AMCHAM, explains the advantages of the oil and gas English course, “It meets the demand of our oil and gas sector members and helps also to expand the membership base by creating conditions for members to participate effectively, even when they are not present in person.”
BridgeBrazil has worked closely with AMCHAM, Latin America’s oldest Chamber of Commerce which serves to facilitate and support business in Rio de Janeiro and to build business partnerships between the U.S. and Brazil. The team are also happy to develop custom versions of the online English courses if the dates of the present course are not suitable to a particular company.
BridgeBrazil is a subsidiary of Bridge, an international language, education and travel company, leading the field with innovative services for nearly three decades with centers in Brazil, Denver, Chile and Argentina. They also offer follow-up classroom English classes to continue after the oil and gas course, as well as Portuguese for foreigner classes.
