RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Clarice Falcão will make her Circo Voador debut tonight (Friday, August 23rd). The multi-talented actress, comedian, screenwriter and singer-songwriter, will play at the famous Lapa venue in support of her debut album released earlier this year entitled, Monomania.

With only the one LP and one previously released self-titled EP, Falcão rocketed to recent musical success in part fueled by her appearance in commercials for retailer Pão de Açúcar, including “O que você faz pra ser feliz?”, and in part due her acting and comedic success through the weekly Youtube shorts on the “Porta dos Fundos” (Backdoor) channel.

Inspired musically by legendary Brazilian artists Chico Buarque and Luiz Tatit, along with the more quirky British artist Kate Nash and American indie pop group Magnetic Fields, Falcão’s songs merge those eclectic influences with her natural comedic style.

Born in Recife to filmmaker João Falcão and screenwriter and writer Adriana Falcão and raised in Rio, Clarice began her multi-faceted career as an actress.

She appeared in several shows and films including “A Favorita” and the “Elmiro Miranda Show” and then also worked as screenwriter on shows including O Globo’s “Louco Por Elas”. She continued her acting career appearing on the Multishow series “O Fantástico Mundo de Gregorio”(The Amazing World of Gregorio) with her husband, comedian Gregório Duvivier.

In 2012 together with Duvivier and actors/comedians Fábio Porchat, Letícia Lima, Júlia Rabello, Rafael Infante, Marcos Veras and others she began making weekly comedy sketches for the Youtube channel, “Porta dos Fundos”.

The channel was an instant success and quickly became the first Brazilian Youtube comedy channel to obtain over one million subcribers.

Included in Falcão’s skits were her original songs and their popularity lead her to further her musical career. She first released her self-titled EP in 2012 and then in April of this year she released Monomania digitally with no physical copies for sale.

Her increasing popularity – including over 376,000 Facebook ‘likes’ – earned her a place on the upcoming Planeta Terra Festival 2013 lineup along with artists Blur, Beck, Palma Violets, BNegão and Lana Del Rey. That festival will take place in Campo de Marte, Sao Paulo on November 9th.

Falcão’s first ever live show took place in Rio at Botafogo’s Solar on April 30th to a sold-out crowd and it was quickly followed by four more sold-out shows at Solar. Falcão then began a tour with shows in the cities of São Paulo, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, and Belo Horizonte.

When asked by G1 Globo if she thought listeners would confuse her songs with her comedic career, Falcão replied; “I hope not. The joke lasts less time than the music. A joke told ten times loses grace; a song heard ten times, not necessarily.[…] What I wanted to do was make arrangements with the most beautiful music as music, regardless of the joke.”
