By Robbie Blakeley, Senior Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Vasco da Gama came from a goal down to beat relegation threatened Figueriense 3-1 at São Januário in round 27 of the 2012 Brasileirão national tournament. Veteran Juninho Pernambucano put in yet another age defying performance, scoring one with an excellent long-range drive and creating the other two for the Rio club.

The result meant Vasco stayed in the G-4, the top four positions in the league, for an incredible 52 consecutive rounds. Luan and Tenorio were also on the score-sheet as new coach Marcelo Oliveira remains undefeated after three games.

Former Botafogo player Caio had given the visitors the lead but Vasco, buoyed by a change of direction at the club, equalized in the first half before going in front after the interval. They now have ten rounds to cement their position the league’s top four and qualify for next year’s Copa Libertadores.

This afternoon, Fluminense meet Flamengo in the Fla-Flu classico as the Tricolor attempt to go six points clear at the top of the table. Botafogo travel to face Bahia in the North-East.
