RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – American alternative rock quintet The Maine returns to Rio de Janeiro this Friday, July 31st to perform live at Circo Voador and to kick-off their Brazilian Candy tour. The current tour is taking place in support of the band’s most recent album, American Candy, released earlier this year in March.

The tour follows the band’s American tour, the “Free For All Tour,” and will include shows in Rio de Janeiro on July 31st; in São Paulo on both August 1st and 2nd; in Porto Alegre on August 4th; and in Curitiba on August 5th.

The tour’s start in Rio is no surprise as the band performed previously in the city numerous times, last in here during May of last year. Before their 2012 show, also held in Circo Voador, The Maine’s bassist Garrett Nickelsen told The Rio Times; “The first time we came to Brazil in December of [2011] was some of the greatest shows we’ve ever been able to play. I remember walking out on stage and having such an overwhelming feeling of excitement that I’ve never felt before.”

Formed by Nickelsen with lead vocalist and pianist John O’Callaghan, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, guitarist Kennedy Brock, and drummer Patrick Kirch in 2007 in Tempe, Arizona, The Maine have released five studio albums, to date, and toured the world extensively as both the headlining and opening act. Additionally they are two-time Warped Tour veterans.

Before kicking off their Brazilian Candy tour and in an effort to further strengthen their mastery of social networks for promotion and as tools to forge intimate connections with their fans, on Sunday, July 26th the band hosted a live YouTube Q&A, “The Brazilian Candy Tour Chat.” Additionally they will host a meet and greet before the Rio show on Friday, but tickets are sold-out.

However, entrances to the show are still available. Circo Voador gates will open at 7PM and the band The Technicolors will perform to start the night.
