RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – ArtRio is back in Rio starting Thursday, September 29th and continuing until Sunday, October 2nd with a preview scheduled for Wednesday, September 28th. Spread across five warehouses, with more than 2,000 artists and over 80 galleries, the art exhibition at Pier Mauá uncovers both Brazilian art and international pieces, giving a side by side comparison of local and global art.
After the success of last year’s fifth edition, ArtRio is now considered one of the most important exhibitions on the global art scene. In this sixth edition, it will simultaneously showcase the works of well-known art masters and upcoming new artists from several worldwide art galleries.
“One of the most important focuses of ArtRio is to strengthen Brazil in the global art market”, explains Luiz Calainho, partner of ArtRio in a press release. “Since its first edition, ArtRio enables this mix of names already established in the history of modern and contemporary art with the enhancement and display of new names coming renew the market.”
The event is divided into two thematic programs. The Panorama program displays a collection of renowned national and international art whereas the Vista program focuses on emerging contemporary art with fresh, new galleries. This year, there are nineteen new galleries participating at the event, with eleven from Brazil and the rest from Argentina, Germany and the United states.
“We must bear in mind also that the time is very favorable to Brazilian art, which in recent years had a strong exposure in the international market”, says Brenda Valansi, partner of ArtRio in a press release. “In addition, we continue with our goal to present new artists and galleries, enabling new discoveries and bringing freshness to the market.”
There will also be the fourth edition of Interventions, an outdoor sculpture display in the gardens of the Museu da Republica representing the works of thirteen artists. Its aim is to show how art interacts with the local scenario and to encourage visitors to visit the museum.
ArtRio will take place at the recently refurbished Pier Mauá in the city center of Rio de Janeiro. The exhibition includes works from various art galleries from around the world that have been temporarily donated to use at the event in order to promote both the artists and the galleries themselves. The pieces of art, that include paintings, photos and sculptures, will be displayed throughout four large warehouses at the Pier Mauá.
The event will display some of the world’s most famous artists including Andy Warhol, Jose Pedro Costigliolo, Fernando Botero, Rochelle Costi, Julio Le Parc, Amadeo Luciana Lorenzato, Chris Ofili and Daniel Hourdé. Over the first three days, the event will take place between 1PM and 8PM, and the final day will run from 1PM until 7PM.
