Atos de Fala Festival Returns to Rio May 13th through 22nd

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The third edition of the Atos de Fala (Acts of Speech) festival will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s Oi Futuro Ipanema and the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) from May 13th through 22nd. The festival, which is known for exploring the relationships among body, words, and images, will once again include lectures, speeches, videos, and installations.

With the theme “Volta à Futuridade” (Back to the Futurity), curators Cristina Becker and Felipe Ribeiro invited artists specializing in the use of various media to imagine and express their ideas of the future.

On May 14th at 6PM, Oi Futuro Ipanema will host “Gentileza de um Gigante | Viagem a uma planície enrugada” (Kind of a Giant | Travel to a wrinkled plain), a performance piece by Gustavo Ciríaco and Natália Viroga which explores the dynamics between humans and nature.

On May 17th at 6PM at OI Futuro Ipanema, Manoel Ricardo de Lima will present “Jogo de varetas, um livro de guerra” (Set of rods, a war book), a piece that explores the relationships between love, war, and texts.

Then on May 19th at 3PM at Oi Futuro Ipanema, Luísa Nóbrega, Julia Pombo and Helena Lessa will present “Ectoplasma” (Ectoplasm), a piece where on performer repeats words from another performer depicted on the other side of the ocean.

Additionally, on May 20th and 21st from 7PM to 6PM, Simone Aughterlony, Antonija Livingstone and Hahn Rowe will present “Supernatural”, a piece which explores the political ecology of things.

On May 20th at MAR, the festival will present Turma Ok with a performance by Shisnayder Show and on May 13th through 22nd at 1PM to 9PM, Turma OK will present performances by Flavia Naves and Sebastian Wiedmann.

Throughout the festival (May 13th through May 22nd, 1PM to 9PM on each day), Oi Futuro Ipanema will host Alexandre Veras’s installation “Conversa Infinita” (Infinite conversation). Featuring a dark room with pillows the play voices and sounds when a head is rested on them, the installation explores the sounds of voices and the idea of fatigue.

The conversa-infinita-programa (talk-infinite-program) also will take place at Oi Futuro Ipanema throughout the festival (May 13th through 22nd, 1PM to 9PM) and feature lectures, talks, and debates.
