Carnival 2014 Blocos for Tuesday, March 4th: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The world famous Carnival in Rio has been in full swing for three days and the fourth and final official day of celebrations looks to be once again full of the free public street parties known as blocos. One of the earliest blocos starts at 9AM in Praça Santos Dummont, Gávea, but if you miss that several others open the day’s festivities at 10AM from Santa Teresa to Ipanema.

The Bloco Carmelitas in Santa Teresa is famous and held several times during the Carnival season, this one offers a relatively smaller crowd parading through the windy streets of the bohemian neighborhood.

The bloco of Rio Maracatu will begin 10AM at Avenida Vieira Souto near Posto (Lifeguard stand) 8 in Ipanema, and proceed with an estimated 10,000 others to Posto 9, still relatively small compared to what the day will bring to beachside neighborhood.

Later the bloco of Orquestra Voadora will begin at the Aterro do Flamengo at 5PM, around the same time the massive (an expected 80,000 people) bloco Banda de Ipanema is starting at Ipanema’s Rua Gomes Carneiro around 5:30 PM.
