José González Live in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, May 6th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Known for his solo classical guitar playing; soft vocals; and intimate acoustic covers of works by Massive Attack, The Knife, Kylie Minogue, and Bruce Springsteen, among others, Swedish singer-songwriter and guitarist José González will play live in Lapa’s Circo Voador on Friday, May 6th. Additionally, former Bombay Bicycle Club vocalist, English singer-songwriter and musician Lucy Rose will perform to open the night.

González and Rose will arrive in Rio thanks to the help of Queremos, a Rio de Janeiro-based crowdfunding project that connects fans, bands, and venues.

Born in Sweden in 1978 to parents who had fled Argentina during the coup d’état two years earlier, José González began his musical career as a member of a punk band.

González would go on to form the indie rock band Junip with organist Elias Araya and drummer Tobias Winterkorn, and together, they released their first EP, Straight Line in 2000. Two studio albums, Fields in 2010 and an eponymously-titled album in 2013, followed and González currently remains a member of the group.

González began his solo career in 2003 with the release of his debut, Veneer, an acoustic album that featured his popular cover of the Knife’s “Heartbeats.” He followed that album that with In Our Nature in 2007 and his third album, Vestiges and Claws was released in February of last year.

Known for her soft, lilting vocals and the song, “Shiver,” which was used during the final episode of the fourth season of the HBO series, “Girls,” Lucy Rose has released two solo studio albums, to date.

Rose’s debut, Like I Used To was released in 2012 and she followed it with the album Work It Out in 2015.

Rose’s performance is scheduled to begin at 10PM on Friday, May 6th in Circo Voador, following the opening of the gate at 9PM and before González takes the stage.
