Lavradio Street Market to Honor Mother’s Day this Saturday in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Saturday, May 5th, Rua do Lavradio street, in Lapa, will host another edition of the “Rio Antigo” street market popularly known as “Feira do Lavradio”. Happening from 10AM to 7PM, May’s edition will be dedicated to Mother’s Day, which will be celebrated this year on May 13th.

Gathering around 400 stalls spread along the entire Rua do Lavradio street, the Rio Antigo market is a favorite Saturday program among Carioca families and friends. Held in Centro for over 20 years, the traditional event can be considered an important landmark for Rio’s street culture.

At the market, visitors can find a variety of handicrafts, articles of clothing, accessories, and also a flea market with rare home decor items and vintage objects.

Along Rua do Lavradio, one will see a couple of food stands, and great bars and restaurants will also be open this Saturday, May 5th, like the sea food house Mangue Seco and Casa Momus, which serves Mediterranean food and great beer labels.

Ahead of this edition’s musical line-up will be singer Nai Dias. Accompanied by musicians Marcelo Sant’Anna (guitar), Reinaldo Pestana Pestana (drums) and Fábio Brasil (bass), Dias will pay tribute to the Mother’s Day with a repertoire of samba classics. The show will take place at the Emilinha Borba square, on the corner of Rua do Lavradio and Rua do Senado, at 4:30 PM.

Organized by the “Polo Novo Rio Antigo” Association since 1997, the “Feira do Lavradio” happens every first Saturday of the month, attracting around 20,000 visitors every edition.
