RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Wednesday, August 8th at 7PM, Liane Maya will present her one-woman tribute show to the Beatles at Copacabana’s famous Sala Municipal Baden Powell.
The actress, singer and ex-member of influential Brazilian girl group As Frenéticas will present a varied show based on the message of peace, love and togetherness propagated by the Fab Four.
This is a great chance to catch her show before it begins touring later this year, and fans of the Beatles can expect to hear such classics as ‘Golden Slumbers,’ ‘Let it Be,’ ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down,’ ‘Oh, Darling!’ ‘Help,’ ‘All You Need is Love,’ and many more.
Trained at the ‘Escola de Música Villa Lobos’ (Villa Lobos Music School) in Rio, Maya’s vocal style is characteristic of the powerful female voices such as Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald that have interpreted so many of the great blues and jazz standards.
When mixed with the music of the Beatles, this results in an unparalleled swing, brought out by Alexandre Immianowsky’s arrangements, which take particular influence from the great bossa nova records of the sixties and seventies.
“The Beatles continue to be a reference for the new generations who believe in peace and love.” Maya comments. “In this moment of racial, social and religious intolerance about to explode in a possible nuclear war, their message is as alive as ever, telling us that ‘the dream is not over.’ She adds.
This night is perfect for anyone missing some classic British sing-alongs since the Kooks and Erasure left town.
