RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – To help attendees prepare for Rock in Rio 2015 and to assist them during the seven-day music festival, on July 22nd Rock in Rio organizers released a new mobile app that works with both IOS and Android. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Rock in Rio festival will again take place in Cidade do Rock (City of Rock) in Barra da Tijuca this September 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th.
“We wanted to transform our app into a program that has its own life,” Roberta Medina, vice president of Rock in Rio explained in a release. “We want the app to be useful for a long period of time. It will further enrich the experience of each day of Rock in Rio, as it will provide tips for transportation and other services that will be part of each day’s 13-hour party in Cidade do Rock.”
Developed by Aloompa, with participation from telecommunications company, Oi, the Rock in Rio mobile app includes a map that aims to help users get to and from the festival and will help them to navigate once inside the Cidade do Rock. There is also a friend finder option, which integrated with Facebook, helps users locate their friends during the event.
Additionally, there is a schedule and line-up section with a complete list of the festival’s programming, organized both chronologically and by location/stage and the “What’s Hot” feature includes basic summaries of the main artists during the festival.
This year the lineup will feature entertainers and musicians including Katy Perry, Robyn, Elton John, Queen with Adam Lambert, One Republic, The Script, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Royal Blood, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot, Angelique Kidjo, and John Legend, among others, in addition to important DJs and producers in the electronic music scene.
Other app features include the sections “Points of Interest,” which spotlights the festival’s attractions, food outlets, shops and other exhibitors; “News and Social Networking,” which connects to various social networks making posts and check-ins easier; and “Instagram + Camera,” a feature that lets users take photos from within the app and share them to Instagram, other social networks or share them through e-mail.
Two games are also included in the app, Rock in Rio Hunt with photo challenges and Oi Hunt, which can be played by finding various QR Codes placed throughout the venue.
The app works with both IOS and Android and is available for download from the App Store and Google Play.
