Brazilian Reggae and Rap Fill Fundição Progresso on July 22nd

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, July 22nd, Fundição Progresso in Lapa will host a new edition of the reggae and rap festival, “Encontro das Tribos” with guests Rael, Costa Gold, Modestiaparte, Raizes Que Tocam, Dub Ataque, and Chimarruts performing live during the night.

The reggae group Chimarruts was formed sixteen years ago in Porto Alegre in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul by friends Rafa, Tati, Sander, Diego, Nê, Vinícius, Emerson, and Rodrigo. Combined, the eight made a name for themselves with songs of peace and love that include “Do lado de cá” (On this side), “Meu erro” (My Mistake) and “Versos Simples” (Simple Verses).

A São Paulo native, Rael is known for his rap, hip-hop, afrobeat, and Brazilian-flavored reggae. For over a decade, Rael was a member of the São Paulo rap group Pentágono. Since his departure from the group in 2012, Rael has released three solo albums, the most recent of which was Diversoficando in 2014. During the show on the 22nd, Rael will be accompanied by DJ Soares.

São Gonçalo born Black Alien is well known for his rap, hip hop, reggae and ragga blends. Born Gustavo de Almeida Ribeiro Junior, Black Alien began his career in 1993 and has released two albums as well as worked with artists including Paralamas do Sucesso, Charlie Brown Jr., Fernanda Abreu, Raimundos, Banda Black Rio, and Marcelinho da Lua, among others during his career, thus far.

Formed by Mateus Pinguim and Leo Flores in 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, the Dub Ataque Sound System, now also featuring Rodrigo Dread, is well known for their reggae sounds.

Additionally, bringing the best of beats from boom-bap to trap to reggae to rock during the event, will be the groups Costa Gold, Modestiaparte, and Raízes que tocam.
