Tribalistas to Play Rio’s Marina da Gloria this Weekend

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian supergroup Tribalistas will be playing two nights at Rio’s Marina da Gloria this Friday, August 3rd, and Saturday, August 4th as part of their 2018 tour, ‘Juntos Somos Um Só’ (Together We Are One).

Made up of Latin Grammy Award-winning singer Marisa Monte, cult singer-songwriter Arnaldo Antunes and percussionist and judge on Brazil’s ‘The Voice’ Carlinhos Brown, the group received both domestic and international acclaim upon the release of their debut album, ‘Tribalistas.’

Their eponymous debut ended up selling over 3 million copies worldwide (with over a million copies in Brazil alone) despite the group refraining from making any television or radio appearances to promote the album, nor touring to support it.

Tribalistas’ first release also garnered five Latin Grammy nominations (winning Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album) as well as a nomination for the BBC Awards for world music in 2004. For the album artwork, the group collaborated with Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, who designed the cover using a picture drawn with chocolate.

After over a decade since their debut, during which there were many hints at a reunion, Tribalistas announced their long awaited return during a live broadcast which occurred simultaneously on the group’s facebook page. In the video, the trio previewed four of the ten tracks that would go on to appear on their second studio album, also named ‘Tribalistas,’ which they finally released in August 2017.

On March 28th, 2018, the group officially announced the Tribalistas Tour 2018, the trio’s first joint tour, which will stop off in nine major stadiums and arenas in Brazil, as well as further dates in Portugal, Spain, Germany and the UK.

Though their follow-up album hasn’t been as warmly received as their debut, their supporting tour has opened to a rapturous reception, with the Folha de S.Paulo commenting on how well their new and old compositions blended with one another in a live context, while also praising the set and stage design.

Fans of the group will be delighted to hear many of their old hits, including ‘Velha Infância,’ (Old Childhood) ‘É Você’ (It’s You) and ‘Já Sei Namorar,’ (I Already Know How to Flirt) combined with newer songs such as ‘Diáspora,’ ‘Um Só,’ (Only One) and ‘Fora da Memória’ (Out of Memory).

This will be a great concert for anyone who recently saw Jorge Ben Jor, Tom Zé or João Bosco, and for fans of contemporary Brazilian music.
