Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Tonight African reggae artist Alpha Blondy returns to Rio de Janeiro to launch his nineteenth album, Positive Energy, live at Circo Voador in Lapa.
Known for his politically conscious lyrics, Blondy has been referred to as the “Bob Marley of Africa” and the “The African Rasta.” His hit songs include “Jerusalem,” “Cocody Rock,” “Sébé Allah Y’é”, “Rendez Vous“, and “Brigadier Sabari.”
Tonight British singer and instrumentalist Mark Kelly will open the show and Dub Ataque, known for their parties in Rio, and DJ Calbuque Motoka, known for his Jungle and Drum And Bass sets, will close the night.
It promises to be a great event for reggae fans in Rio.
Frejat and Vanessa da Mata (Lapa)
Brazilian rock singer-songwriter Frejat and Brazilian MPB singer-songwriter Vanessa da Mata will perform live in Lapa’s Fundição Progresso tonight. The house will open at 10PM and Frejat will perform at 10:30PM, followed by Vanessa da Mata at 1AM.

Brazilian singer Maria Rita will perform live tonight at Citibank Hall in Barra da Tijuca. Daughter of musician César Camargo Mariano and legendary Brazilian singer Elis Regina, Rita has released six studio albums and is a multiple Latin Grammy Award-winning-singer.
