McFerrin_EFriday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Ten-time Grammy Award-winner Bobby McFerrin kicks off the Rio de Janeiro portion of the 2014 BMW Jazz Festival tonight at Vivo Rio.

Best known for his 1988 hit song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” McFerrin is an accomplished American vocalist with multiple studio albums. Additionally, throughout his career, McFerrin has worked with a wide range of artists including; Herbie Hancock, Gal Costa, Laurie Anderson, En Vogue and Wynton Marsalis, among others.

McFerrin joins the BMW Jazz festival this year, playing shows in São Paulo, Rio, and Belo Horizonte, in support of his latest release entitled, Spirityouall.

Blues Festival with Cristiano Crochemore and Artur Menezes (Laranjeiras)
Guitarist Cristiano Crochemore will host the fifth night of the 2014 Blues Festival tonight Bar do B in Laranjeiras. Guto Goffi will be on drums, Claudio Bedran on bass and special guest, Artur Menezes on guitar.

Quebrando a Cena presents Cabaret (Lapa)
Tonight at Lapa’s Teatro Odisséia is time for Cabaret at the house of Zé. DJs Ingrid Gründig and Roberto Cruz of Quebrando a Cena and Felipe Mar of Wallpaper will spin funk and hip hop while DJs Fernando Prado of TeKiller, Polly of the Hit Me and Stephan Maus will throw down the best in rock and pop. There will also be shots of Absolut Vodka and “Drink QC”. Additionally there will be a pole dancing contest; a contest for shortest shorts and a wet t-shirt contest. Finally, there will also be a Batalha do Passinho (Battle of the the little step, dancing competition).

Open Air Film Screening- Dirty Dancing (Glória)
Tonight at Marina da Glória, “Dirty Dancing” will screen as part of the ongoing Vivo Open Air festival. Following the screening, Manie Dansante will play the best in electro-swing, jazz and other new retro-rhythms to get the audience dancing during the after party. Tickets for both the film and Manie Dansante, are currently sold out but tickets for Manie Dansante segment of the night are still available for$R40-R$80.

Tonight the Pub Crawl Carioca is back. Once again the group will tour three of the city’s bars while drinking and socializing. Tonight at Centro’s Santo Scenarium DJ Marcello MBgroove and the group Bambina Philosophie come together to deliver R&B, funk, soul, jazz and blended covers of neo soul classics by D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Prince, among others.
