Rio NighlifeSunday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Today and into the night, Mariana Reis and her band will perform their jazz and blues at Gilda no Cantagalo in the favela community of Cantagalo.

With a delightful voice and repertoire dedicated to jazz and blues, Mariana Reis will offer up her renditions of the greats, including Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simoni, Michael Buble, Ray Charles, Zaz and of course some jazzy Brazilian numbers.

Gilda no Cantagalo is at the top of one of the highest peaks in Copacabana, Morro do Cantagalo. The bar there will be serving a selection of beers and strong caipirinhas from the moment it opens.

Today and tonight, Mariana Reis will perform live at Gilda no Cantagalo, bringing lively songs of samba jazz with wonderful views across Copacabana and Ipanema. Please contact the venue for transportation options as caution is always advised before venturing into a favela community.

It’s time to dance as singer-songwriter Rogê returns for his weekly show at Lapa’s Carioca de Gema. The lively performer will present his own compositions as well as covers of works by Jorge, Djavan, and Jorge Benjor, among others.

Roda de Samba with Ballet 2 Passistas (Lapa)
Sundays are all about samba at Lapa’s Leviano bar. Every week beginning at 5PM the venue hosts a roda de samba with the group Face a Face playing classics of the genre, including works by Arlindo Cruz, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira, among others. Additionally, DJ Mukato spins during show intervals.
