“Today’s announcement marks our long-term commitment to Brazil and, most importantly, to our customers throughout the country,” said Amazon’s president in Brazil, Alex Szapiro, in a statement.

The company has not disclosed how much it is investing on the new distribution center, which initially will cover 10,000 square meters, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, a city in the greater Recife area.

The retailer expects to start operations on the first half of 2020, reducing the minimum delivery time to two days in Recife, João Pessoa, Natal, Maceió and Fortaleza, according to the statement.

Also according to Amazon, the opening of the distribution center in Pernambuco should generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, which add to the more than 3,200 jobs created since 2012 in Brazil.
