ANCINE’s Next President Will Have Conservative Profile, Says Minister
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The government has not yet disclosed a name for the president of the National Film Agency (ANCINE), but the person will have a conservative profile like the government.
The statement is from Citizenship Minister Osmar Terra, who commented on President Jair Bolsonaro’s statements that the new president of the regulatory agency should be evangelical.

“This government is conservative in its customs and liberal in its economy. That is its profile, and we will see who is the best person for that job,” says Osmar Terra.
He recalled that ANCINE is formed by four boards and the president is chosen among their members. Terra indicated that career diplomat Paula Alves de Souza was confirmed for one such vacancy.
Regarding the budget forecast of the Audiovisual Sector Fund for 2020 to be 43 percent lower than this year, the minister said that a budget proposal will only be defined after a meeting of the Superior Cinema Council, which should occur next week. “We are reorganizing the sector, and we have proposals, but no cut at all.
Osmar Terra spoke with the press after participating in the opening of the 25th Congress of the Brazilian Association for the Study of Alcohol and Other Drugs, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro through Friday, September 13th.
In the lecture, he reinforced that the federal government’s policy is based on the idea that there is an epidemic of drug use in the country and defended treatments focused on therapeutic communities and abstinence. He strongly opposed the regulation, including medical regulation, of marijuana derivatives.
The Minister also reinforced that despite the contingencies, the government’s social programs continue and that this year the beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família Program will receive the 13th installment. He announced a partnership with System S to offer training courses for young people from families benefited by the program.
“We are seeing how we can bring this Bolsa Família public into the world of work, employment, and income. We are now starting a great partnership with System S for professional training, and we have R$4.7 (US$1.175) billion in the Central Bank in compulsory deposit for microcredit for young people. We are going to focus on Bolsa Família’s young people; we have 4.6 million young people included in the program who neither work nor study,” he explained.
