Bolsonaro Cancels Trip to Davos Economic Forum

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro’s trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) has been canceled. The announcement was made by the spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Otávio do Rêgo Barros.

According to him, the issue between the United States and Iran is unrelated to the cancellation.

Barros said, however, that the security issue is one of the aspects analyzed by the advisory board, but that it is not a “priority or minority point”. “The president and team of advisors assessed a number of aspects (for the cancellation): economic, security, political aspects,” he said. According to the spokesman, security is part of a context and is not the main reason behind the cancellation, but the “sum total” of assessed points.

The Economic Forum has been held for almost 50 years and, at the meeting, world leaders and heads of the world’s largest companies discuss measures for global economic trade. This year’s meeting will take place between January 21st and 24th.

The president’s trip to India is maintained, but no date has been set. “It is a virtually confirmed agenda, where the president will take part in the anniversary celebration of the country’s foundation as a Republic,” he said.
