Brazil beats cotton export record in 2020/21 with 2.4 million tons, says Abrapa

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil exported 2.4 million tons of cotton in the 2020/21 marketing year (between August 2020 and July 2021), up 23% compared to the previous season, setting a new record for shipments, said on Monday the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (Abrapa).

China was the main destination of Brazilian fiber, responsible for 30% of the total shipped in 2020/21.

“With unprecedented 720.7 thousand tons acquired, the Asian giant surpassed the domestic market as the largest consumer of cotton produced in Brazil,” the association said in a statement.
