Brazil Proposes Guidelines for E-Commerce to World Trade Organization
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The proposal will be taken into account in the ongoing negotiations on e-commerce in the organization.
In a joint note, the ministries of economy and foreign affairs reported that the document provides guidelines and recommendations for good practices in the use of information and communication technologies.

Among the examples mentioned are the use of these technologies for the clearance of goods at customs and the disclosure on the Internet of information related to trading, such as documentation required in trade procedures and access to the markets of the countries involved – import tariffs, taxes, and non-tariff measures, among others.
According to the two ministries, digital technologies enable a more efficient implementation of the obligations undertaken in the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.
According to the joint note, Brazil’s active participation in the e-commerce negotiations demonstrates the country’s commitment to the relevance of the WTO in the 21st-century economy.
