Brazil sees 204 cases of coronavirus variants

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Brazil has confirmed 204 cases of infection with variants of the coronavirus, including the variants first detected in Brazil and the United Kingdom, the Health Ministry's Health Surveillance Secretariat (SVS) reported on Tuesday, February 24th.

Of these cases, 184 correspond to the P.1 variant first detected in Brazil, and 20 to the variant first reported in the United Kingdom, the SVS said.

Coronavirus variants are mutations of the virus, which have shown to be more contagious. To date, Brazil has not seen cases of another variant first discovered in South Africa.
