Brazilian Boxing Wins Two Gold, Two Silver Medals in Finland
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil did well this Sunday, November 24th, the last day of the Tammer Boxing Tournament, in Finland, one of the most traditional of the European circuit. Boxers Keno Marley (category up to 81kg) and Abner Teixeira (91kg) won the gold, and Wanderson ‘Sugar’ Oliveira (63kg) and Rebeca Lima (60Kg) won silver.
The Brazilian team is still in full swing to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 in Japan. The spots will be defined in pre-Olympic continental tournaments in January and April next year.
Keno Marley, 19, currently runner-up in the Pan American championship in Lima (Peru), was one of the national boxing revelations. He won twice in the up to 81kg category, making his direct semi-final debut on Saturday, November 23rd, with a victory over the French Gaetan Ntambwe, which ensured his presence in the grand final. For the gold medal, Keno Marley also beat Sammy Lee from Wales.
Last Sunday’s second gold medal was won by Abner Teixeira (91kg) who beat the German Ammar Abduljabbar in the final. To reach the decision, the Brazilian heavyweight beat the Estonian Ainar Karlson on Friday, November 22nd, in the quarterfinals; and on Saturday, November 23rd, Abner Teixeira took out Ukrainian Marat Gryhorian.
Silver
Rio de Janeiro’s Wanderson ‘Sugar’ Oliveira kicked off well in the Tammer Tournament on Saturday: he made his direct semi-final debut in the up to 63kg category, winning by knockout in the second round against British Mickey McDonagh. However, in the final on Sunday, Sugar lost to the French Sofiane Oumiha, taking the silver medal.
The other silver medal was won by the lightweight Rebeca Lima, only 18 years old. As for the female dispute in the up to 60kg category, the four boxers entered competed against each other. The Brazilian boxer beat the Polish Aneta Rygielska on Friday, but on Saturday lost to the Finnish Mira Potkonen, who won the gold on Sunday by totaling three victories. On Sunday, Rebeca Lima won the silver medal after beating Italy’s Francesca Amato.
