Brazil’s Bolsonaro asks for “a miracle” to “save” Peru from the leftist São Paulo Forum
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, asked this Wednesday, June 9, for “a miracle” to “save” Peru and avoid the possible victory of the leftist Pedro Castillo in the elections held last Sunday in that country.
“We lose Peru now. I ask for a miracle to reverse it” and that “the São Paulo Forum”, which groups and organizes parties of the Latin American left, “does not return” to that country, declared the leader of the Brazilian ultra-right in a ceremony with evangelist pastors, who are part of his political base.

According to the latest report of the Peruvian National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), with over 99% of the second-round votes counted, Castillo holds a lead of 71,764 votes over his rival, the right-wing Keiko Fujimori.
According to the ONPE, Castillo has so far 50.20 % of the votes (8,735,448 votes) against 49.79 % (8,663,684 votes) obtained by Fujimori, when 99.79 % of the votes have been counted.
Bolsonaro compared the situation in Peru to that in Argentina or Venezuela and even cited Chile among the countries that have begun to lean to the left.
“You see where our Venezuela went, a very rich country. See where our Argentina is going. Also, just a miracle to save Argentina. Look at the constituent assembly in Chile,” the president said.
In the opposite direction, Bolsonaro quoted himself and told the pastors that “the miracle is happening in Brazil”, which was received with a long ovation by the religious leaders.
The São Paulo Forum (“Foro de São Paulo”), is a conference of leftist political parties and other organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. It was launched by the Workers’ Party (PT) of Brazil in 1990 in the city of São Paulo.
