Brazil’s Midwest suffers from a shortage of professionals for agribusiness

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Midwest Region suffers from a shortage of good professionals in the agribusiness segment. These specialized profiles are highly sought after, and companies have made aggressive retention moves to hold on to them, which has significantly impacted the sector.

According to Anderson Schemberg, the executive responsible in the Midwest Region for the HR solutions ecosystem, Fesa Group, of the agribusiness positions held this year, 80% were negotiated for salaries and benefits because the employing companies applied aggressive counterproposals for retention.

“Besides the traditional agribusiness areas, such as livestock and inputs, the professionals are being disputed by agricultural machinery companies, by family companies that will undergo succession and even by banks that understand that in the rural business it is important that the professional transitions between technical knowledge and the producer’s trust,” says Schemberg.

The executive also affirms that many profiles are being promoted precociously or mainly suffering very significant salary readjustments, extrapolating some average remuneration ranges for the positions.

The fear is that a bubble is forming in the segment, as with internet professionals a few years ago. On average, when changing jobs, the expected salary increase is 10% to 15%. In agribusiness, the expectation reaches an increase of 50%.
