Brazil’s oil production up 5.4% between December and January

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian oil production reached an average daily production of 2.87 million barrels in January this year, according to data released today, March 2nd, by the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The result was 5.4% higher than the December 2020 production.

Meanwhile, the average daily production of natural gas totaled 136 million cubic meters (m³), 7.4% higher than in December 2020. However, when compared to January 2020, there were declines in oil (-9.3%) and natural gas (-1.7%) production.

Considering only the product extracted from the pre-salt layer, production reached 2.07 million barrels of oil and 88.3 million cubic meters of natural gas, totaling 2.63 million barrels of oil equivalent (a standardized measurement that combines oil barrels and cubic meters of gas) per day, 8.2% higher than in December, but 2% lower than in January of last year.

In January this year, the utilization of natural gas was 97.9% of the total extracted from underground. Only 2.9 million m³/day were flared (unused). The fields operated by Petrobras accounted for 93.3% of the oil and natural gas produced in Brazil.
