BTG Pactual creates Mynt to become 1st Brazilian bank in crypto market

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – BTG Pactual, Latin America’s largest investment bank, announced a new feature on Monday, Septembere 20, making it the first major financial institution in Brazil to participate directly in the crypto market.

The bank announced the launch of Mynt, a platform that allows BTG Pactual Digital and BTG+ clients to trade directly, cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ether.

“At this first moment, we will have the two main digital assets in the market, but we will include other cryptos for trading over time. We will have a complete platform with blockchain-based assets. In addition, Mynt will bring content aimed at educating and informing clients about this new technology,” says André Portilho, head of Digital Assets at BTG Pactual.

Portilho says that the entry of an institution of BTG Pactual’s size into the crypto market will undoubtedly help develop the sector and, as it is an institution regulated by both the Central Bank and the CVM (Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission), BTG Pactual is positioned as a safer option for investors who intend to access the crypto market: “With BTG Pactual’s support, Mynt has fundamental security and credibility differentials and also an award-winning service, characteristics that are fundamental in a new investment category, with which most people are still not used to.”

BTG Pactual has already shown interest in the crypto sector a few times. It was the first bank to create a bitcoin investment fund; BTG Pactual also allows trading in crypto ETFs listed on the B3 exchange in São Paulo.

In addition, in 2019, the bank created ReitBZ, the first security token issued by a bank globally, representing quotas of a real estate investment trust (REIT) fund that circulates on blockchain. “ReitBZ was the project that gave us the learning and validation we needed about the potential of this new technology. Without a doubt, it was a fundamental step in our development in the sector,” explained Portilho.

“We are a complete bank. Here you consolidate your investments, have a current account, a card, and now crypto,” said Portilho. “We are always keeping up with the new technology and investment trends in the world and attentive to the demands of our clients.”

“BTG understood that there was a great opportunity and gap in the crypto world. Mynt comes to fill it, offering functionality with security and quality service, all this with the robustness and credibility of the largest investment bank in Latin America,” concluded the executive.

Clients who use BTG Pactual’s applications will have direct access to Mynt products at the beginning of next quarter. Until then, those interested can learn the details of the platform on its official website and register to receive first-hand all the news about the launch. In addition, they will receive free access to an exclusive masterclass on how to start investing in cryptocurrencies.

Mynt’s launch reinforces and continues the bank’s strategy to facilitate customer access to this new technology and asset class and indicates the crypto market’s maturation in Brazil and abroad.

Large financial institutions have recently begun to take their most significant steps into the universe of digital assets, either as investors or as investment vehicles – Tesla, Visa, and BlackRock, among others. With the launch of Mynt, BTG Pactual takes a step further and can make a significant impact not only in the Brazilian crypto market but also in the world.
