Brazilian Fintech Enables Donations to Health Institutions

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s Doare, a startup that uses technology to mediate online donations, now allows Internet users to donate any amount, starting at R$10 (US$2), to health institutions in light of the new coronavirus pandemic, which is affecting Brazil and is now demanding additional resources from hospitals.

Donations may be made online to approximately 20 health care institutions such as the Clínicas Hospital, Santa Casa de São Paulo, and Santa Casa de Belo Horizonte. The amounts may be donated in Brazilian reais, dollars, euros, or pounds. Foreign currencies are accepted through the American PayPal online payment service.

Donations are transferred in cash to health care institutions, which can use them for funding patient care.

The donation amount is free when made directly to a facility, such as the Santa Casa de São Paulo. For other donations, the minimum amount is R$50. Donations may be made through Doare’s official website for the initiative to fight the Covid-19 disease or through the Startup’s cell phone App.

Doare allows NGOs and health institutions to set up their own campaign websites, thus simplifying the technological implementation of online donation collection.

The fintech was founded in 2011, in Rio de Janeiro, by Ruy Fortini and Felipe Hlibco. The business is funded by a fee charged for each transaction.
