Brazilian Postal Service Will Be Privatized in 2021, Says Secretary Mattar
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Secretary of Privatization of Bolsonaro’s government, Salim Mattar, said on Wednesday, January 29th, that the deadline to privatize Telebras is July 2021, the ‘Correios‘ (Postal Service) in December of the same year, and the ‘Empresa Brasil de Comunicação’ (“Brazilian Communication Company” – EBC) in January 2022.

The target for 2020 is to privatize 300 companies, raising R$150 billion (US$38 billion), according to Mattar. “In 2019 we were very focused on the Social Welfare reform, this year the privatization agenda will go further”, he said.
The secretary also highlighted that the federal government holds 698 companies and that Banco do Brasil (BBAS3), Caixa Econômica Federal, and Petrobras (PETR3; PETR4) will not be privatized.
“We would need to change the law and we do not do the same things as previous governments to have a majority in Congress,” he said.
Nevertheless, Mattar praised Congress, stating that the Chamber President, Rodrigo Maia, and the Senate President, Davi Alcolumbre, are very well aware of the country’s situation.
