Brazil’s public debt rises 3.07% in June to R$5.33 (US$1.03) trillion

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Public debt, which includes the government's debt in Brazil and abroad, increased 3.07% in June compared to May, reaching R$5.33 trillion (slightly over US$1 trillion), according to data released Wednesday (28) by the Ministry of Finance.

The debt is composed of loans taken by the government to pay for expenses that are higher than tax revenues.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the growth in June was caused by the issuance of R$138.13 billion in debt securities and  R$20.60 billion in interest payments.
