Small Businesses Generated 95 percent of New Jobs in July

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Micro and small companies have generated 41.5 thousand jobs with registered employment contracts in July. The data were compiled by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE) based on the General Registry of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED). According to the survey, small businesses created 95 percent of the jobs generated throughout the country.

Including the numbers from large companies and governments, 43,800 formal jobs have been generated. From January to July of this year, micro and small companies created 437,600 jobs, 2.4 percent more than in the same period last year.

The president of SEBRAE, Carlos Melles, said that these entrepreneurs were the lever for the economy and crucial for the generation of employment and income in the country. Small businesses in the service sector were those generating the most jobs (20,000). The standouts were the real estate sector, with 15,200 jobs, and the civil construction sector, with 14,000 jobs.

São Paulo topped job generation in July, with 12,800 more openings, followed by Minas Gerais, with 7,500. The Southeast Region recorded the highest number of new jobs (20,000), followed by the Midwest, with 6,700 openings.
