Catholic Church and Pope Francis to Take Stand Against Bolsonaro on Amazon

A document to serve as a basis for discussions at the Amazon Synod, the Roman Catholic Church's October event in Rome, places Catholics and their main leader, Pope Francis, on a collision course with the government of Jair Bolsonaro over the Amazon.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - President Jair Bolsonaro's government (PSL) is expected to prepare for another diplomatic crisis in the coming months.

Following the clashes with French President Emmanuel Macron, the destruction of the Amazon will be on the agenda at a summit meeting of the Roman Catholic Church, to be attended by researchers and indigenous leaders. Brazil is the largest Catholic country in the world.
