Cement sales in Brazil drop 4.7% in April against March

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The sale of cement in Brazil fell 4.7% in April compared to March, to 5.22 million tons, said on Monday the association representing producers, SNIC.

Compared to April 2020, when much of the country was paralyzed by social isolation measures after the pandemic hit the country, sales rose 25.8%.

“The majority of sales are being sustained by the residential real estate market and this calls for caution in the cement industry for the future,” said in the statement SNIC’s chairman, Paulo Camillo Penna (Photo Internet reproduction)

“The main drivers of growth continue to be real estate construction and residential and commercial renovations,” SNIC said in a statement, mentioning as an example real estate launches in São Paulo, which rose 98% in March year-on-year.

However, the organization assesses that the current growth is not sustainable.

“The majority of sales are being sustained by the residential real estate market and this calls for caution in the cement industry for the future,” said in the statement SNIC’s chairman, Paulo Camillo Penna.
