Chicken prices in Brazil up in May, with heated domestic and foreign sales

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Domestic and foreign sales of chicken meat are heated in the first half of May.

The scenario has enabled producers to positively readjust the sector’s trading values, in an attempt to pass on the sharp rise in production costs.

CEPEA (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics) notes the rise in prices of the entire poultry chain, from chicks and live chicken, to cuts and offal.

In the domestic market, sales of chicken meat are favored by its high competitiveness against the main substitutes – beef and pork.

The low purchasing power of much of the Brazilian population, given the current economic scenario, enhances the demand for poultry protein.

As for the animal, the high prices of feed are leading producers to readjust their sales prices.
