Covid-19: Health Minister Announces Hiring of 267 Professionals in Amazonas

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Minister of Health, Nelson Teich, announced yesterday, May 3rd, that 267 health professionals have been hired to fight Covid-19 in Amazonas.

Earlier, Teich and Executive Secretary Eduardo Pazuello boarded for Manaus, where they met with State Governor Wilson Lima and Manaus Mayor Arthur Virgílio.

On Twitter, the Minister said that Amazonas will be reinforced by 37 doctors, 118 nurses, 57 nursing technicians, 26 physiotherapists and 17 biomedical professionals.

According to a report released on Saturday, May 2nd, by the Health Surveillance Foundation (FVS-AM), Amazonas recorded 339 additional cases of the disease, totaling 6,062 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state.

The number of deaths rose to 501. Of the 6,062 confirmed cases in Amazonas, 3,658 are in Manaus (60.3 percent) and 2,404 in the interior of the state (39.6 percent). Sixty-four deaths are under investigation and 31 have been ruled out for the novel coronavirus.

On Saturday, two Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft carried a large amount of individual protection equipment and other health supplies to the Amazonian capital to be distributed to the state hospital network.
