Debut Flight From Brasília to Cancún Takes off Friday Morning

By Iolanda Fonseca

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The new direct flight from Brasília to Cancún, Mexico, operated by Gol Linhas Aéreas, will begin this Friday morning, June 28th, at Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport (BSB).

The inauguration of the route, announced by Metrópoles, will be attended by the Federal District’s interim governor, Paco Britto (Avante), its Secretary of Tourism, Vanessa Mendonça, the vice-president of sales and marketing of Gol, Eduardo Bernardes, and Roberto Luiz, director of new business of Inframerica.

“We are delighted with the introduction of this new route to Cancún. Now, Brasília is a flight away from the Mexican paradise,” said Roberto Luiz of Inframerica. (Photo: Internet Reproduction)

The destination was planned by the airline to serve all regions of Brazil, as passengers from around 25 cities served by Gol will be offered the opportunity to connect quickly at the Brasília Airport — on average 60 minutes — to and from the Mexican city. Some travelers, for instance, may board in Congonhas (SP) and Santos Dumont (RJ), two airports located in city centers.

“We are delighted with the introduction of this new route to Cancún. Now, Brasília is a flight away from the Mexican paradise. This is the result of the work carried out in partnership with the GDF (Federal District Administration) to encourage the integration of the city as an international hub, which is made possible by encouraging aviation,” said Roberto Luiz.

The increase in routes to other countries is a reflection of tax incentive announced by the GDF to companies operating direct international flights from BSB. The decision was to reduce the value-added tax (ICMS) rate on aircraft fuel from twelve to seven percent.

Currently, the Brasília airport has direct flights to Lisbon (Portugal), Miami and Orlando (United States), Panama City (Panama) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). For upcoming months, airlines have announced the expansion of the international links, with flights from BSB to Lima (Peru), Santiago (Chile) and Asunción (Paraguay).
