Fear of corruption and bribery on the rise in Latin America – Kroll survey

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A survey by Kroll, a risk analysis and corporate governance firm, showed that Latin America is the region in the world with the highest perception that corruption risks are higher this year than last year.

According to the study, 52% of those living in the region think that the risks of such crimes are higher this year than in 2020.

For example, the Latin American percentage is higher than that observed in Europe, where 46% believe the risks of corruption are higher than last year, and in Asia, with 42% of places with this perception.

According to Kroll, the emergency contracts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic have increased the population’s perception of the increased risks of illegal practices.

This perception, says the study, was stronger in Latin America precisely after the last decade. The fight against embezzlement of public resources set the tone of political discussions in the region, especially in Brazil, with Lava Jato (Operation Car Wash).
