Globo Will Release Globoplay in the USA Next Year

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As of next year, Brazilians living in the US will have one more way to access TV Globo’s programming, through the Globoplay App.
Globoplay is a subscription video-on-demand service owned by Grupo Globo. It was launched in Brazil on October 26, 2015. In addition, the service also offers live streaming of the Rede Globo free-to-air channel.

Brazil’s Foreign Office estimates that 1 million Brazilians live in the United States today, almost a third of them in Florida. Watching Globo’s programs there is already possible via Globo Internacional’s subscription on pay TV.
“This model will be adapted to the Brazilian public living in the US, and the projection is that it will offer ‘catch up’ and ‘live streaming’ of Globo International’s programming shown in the country,” says the group.
In other words, it will be possible to watch all of Globo’s programming after its linear display (after it has been broadcast on open TV). It will also be possible to watch local content, such as the TV news “Globo Notícia Américas.” The platform will not display live Globo content, however.
Some content may not be displayed in other countries due to territorial copyright issues. For instance, Globo may show a Warner film in Brazil, but its Globo International platforms, as well as Globoplay as of 2020, may not do so in other countries unless it negotiates with studios on a case-by-case basis.
“We have six more international channels, which now have four million subscribers: Americas, Europe, two channels for Africa and two for Portugal,” says Globo.
Globo has been selling its soap operas and products to some 170 countries over the last 40 years.
