RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – General Motors announced on Monday, May 9th, that it will produce a new pickup truck model in Brazil to complement the line currently comprising the compact Montana and the large-size S10.
The company said the new pickup truck will be produced at the company’s plant in São Caetano do Sul (SP) and is part of a R$10 (US$1.9) billion investment cycle to renew its portfolio and develop new technologies in the country.
GM did not disclose details regarding the vehicle, but stated in a press release that the pickup truck “is currently under development and will be the next member of Chevrolet’s new global vehicle family, currently comprising the present Onix, Onix Plus and Tracker generations.”
Early this year, specialized websites published that this product aims to compete with the medium-sized Toro pickup truck from Stellantis, vice-leader of the pickup truck segment in Brazil, according to data from the dealership association FENABRAVE.
