Jurists Defend Protection of Transsexual Juveniles in Socio-educational Facilities

Jurists gathered in the 7th National Forum of Protective Justice (FONAJUP) and in the 25th National Forum of Juvenile Justice (FONAJUV) are opposed to the placing of transsexual women and transvestites to male wings in facilities for compliance with social-educational measures.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Socio-educational measures are enforced by the courts for educational purposes and are intended for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 who have been involved in criminal offenses or misdemeanors.

Officials of courts from all over the country, the National Council of Justice (CNJ), the Chamber of Deputies, the Public Defender's Office and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) took part in discussions this week at a National Forum . . .
