Five People Cured of Covid-19 in Espírito Santo State
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Five people who live in Espírito Santo State and have contracted the Covid-19 are now considered cured, according to information provided by the Health Secretariat of the State. One of these patients is a 37-year-old woman who had traveled to Europe for ten days, visiting Italy.
According to the secretariat, these five cured patients are included in the inventory of 26 cases recorded in the state released yesterday by the Ministry of Health. Of the 21 patients still infected, 15 are in home isolation and six are hospitalized – one of whom is in the ICU. There is a total of 974 suspected cases – those in which patients are waiting for test results.
In an attempt to prevent the escalation of cases in Espírito Santo, Governor Renato Casagrande requested that the Army and the Fire Department take to the streets. As of yesterday, 200 men from the barracks were deployed on the main streets of the state to prevent the circulation of people. One of the government’s main concerns is the beaches, where it is still possible to find many people exercising on the boardwalk and sunbathing on the sand strip.
Gatherings of over 100 people are banned. Such gatherings need to take place in areas with three times this capacity. Churches may only host up to 50 faithful for celebrations.
Shopping malls, museums, nightclubs, movie theatres, and trade – except for essential services – are closed. Restaurants may only operate until 4 PM. Classes in state and private schools are suspended, as well as in public and private universities.
Governor Casagrande will submit a request to the Legislative Assembly next week for state deputies to decree a state of public disaster in Espírito Santo. Also next week, health secretary Nésio Fernandes expects the first cases of community transmission to be confirmed – which will demand new health measures from the government.
