RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A man was arrested on Saturday, October 3rd, after pouring gasoline on his ex-girlfriend in an attempt to burn her alive in Lago Norte, a wealthy area of the Federal District. The suspect was arrested by the State Police (PM) along with two other friends.

According to the PM, the police force was mobilized through an anonymous tip. The police found four people inside a car in the region of Prainha. The victim exited the vehicle calling for help.

The officers located a gallon of gasoline, a knife, and a portion of marijuana with the group. The woman’s ex-partner was found with a lighter in his hand, which according to the officers, would have been used to set fire to the woman, who was covered in fuel.

The case was recorded at the Paranoá Police Station. The victim’s ex-boyfriend will be held for attempted femicide and his two friends for attempted murder.
