Pão de Açúcar Stores Will Have Opening Hours Only for Clients Over Age Sixty

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Pão de Açúcar reported that as of Wednesday, March 18th, the chain’s stores would provide exclusive service hours for customers over 60 years of age, from 6 AM to 7 AM, every day. The measure is part of the company’s efforts to fight the coronavirus.

According to the announcement, the measure is effective for the supermarket stores throughout the country, excluding stores within shopping malls, which will comply with the schedules of each establishment.

The chain stresses that it follows the World Health Organization’s (WHO) guidelines, reinforcing sanitization of baskets and trolleys and other contact points in the stores “in order to ensure an appropriate environment for shopping needs”.

Consumers fear that there will be a shortage of products on the shelves. The shortage of hand sanitizers, water and cleaning products in a number of stores is now noticeable. However, companies guarantee that so far there is no supply shortage expected in the country, nor in the capital city of São Paulo, where the highest number of cases has been recorded so far.
