The use of Pix – the Brazilian instant payment service – has surpassed other means of payment, such as DOC (“Credit Transfer Document), TED (Special Credit Transfer) and “boletos” (payment slips). The conclusion was presented on Thursday, May 20, by the Central Bank through its publication “Pix: The New Brazilian Payment Method.”
In operation since November 16, 2020, by the end of March Pix had registered 206.6 million keys – identifiers such as e-mail, CPF (individual taxpayer registry), CNPJ (registry of legal entities), cell phone or random number – that were used for receiving funds.
In the document, the Central Bank reported that between November 2020 and March 2021, 1 billion transactions were performed through Pix, for a total of R$787.2 (US$148) billion. “Compared to other payment methods, the use of Pix has been growing every month and is now higher than the use of TEDs and DOCs combined.
