RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - By Wednesday night, March 25th, a total of 680,000 people had signed a petition calling for the impeachment of Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro.
The petition was circulated last week by three PSOL (Socialism and Liberty Party) federal deputies: Fernanda Melchionna, Sâmia Bomfim and David Miranda.
"Were his incompetence not enough, the president called for coup-like demonstrations in support of his government just as the health authorities were trying to persuade the population to avoid crowds," says a text on Sâmia Bomfim's website, where signatures are collected.
