Supermarket sector in Brazil invoices US$104 billion in 2020, represents 7.5% of GDP

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The data were released Friday, May 21, by the Brazilian Supermarket Association (ABRAS), which stressed that the sales figure of R$554 billion represents 7.5% of Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). There are 3 million direct and indirect jobs in the sector.

"The invoicing of the 91,000 stores, with the new changes we are currently introducing, represents R$554 billion. In this amount all supermarket distribution channels are included. We are talking about physical sales, e-commerce sales, and delivery," said Marcio Milan, ABRAS' vice-president.
