RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Idealized by architects Karin Nisiide and Carlos Eduardo Salamanca, Tetris Hostel offers a “connection of ideas and people from all over the world”, in addition to the functional and creative fitting of containers.
“I am an architect and I studied abroad about container construction, which greatly interested me. Returning to Brazil we looked for real estate to set up a hostel and didn’t find anything attractive. It was then that we decided to do something quite innovative and unprecedented here, until now”, tells Karin.
Located on Cataratas Avenue, the main tourist corridor in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), the structure is made up of 15 containers and over a thousand square meters. With room capacity for 70 guests, the facility features private and shared rooms, shared kitchen, lounge, pool, balcony, indoor garden, bar and parking.
“Our main differential is a unique and innovative environment, complete with leisure and rest areas, where the guest can relax, feel at home and interact with the other guests”, says Karin. “In addition, we hold events and parties, for interaction between locals and visitors”.
In addition to the architectural differential of the Tetris Hostel, the development is also committed to sustainability. The entire project was designed to reduce its impact on the environment: rainwater collection directs inputs to flush toilets and all wastewater from sinks, showers and toilets in the hostel is treated directly by an eco-friendly system, called the root zone, where plants filter the water that is then used to water the gardens. In addition, the green roof reduces the internal temperature, while the pool is heated by solar panels.
