Vehicle production in Brazil drops 13.4% in June compared to May – Anfavea
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Due to the global shortage of semiconductors, which compromises the supply of electronic modules, half of Brazil’s automotive assembly plants stopped part or all of their production in June, for periods ranging from days to a full month, said Brazil’s National Automakers Association (Anfavea).
With 166,900 units manufactured, the production of vehicles registered a drop of 13.4% from May to June, according to the balance sheet released on Wednesday, July 7, by Anfavea, the association that represents the automakers installed in the country. Amid the lack of parts, aggravated by the unavailability of electronic components, the June production was the lowest in 12 months.
Compared to June last year, when the industry was still feeling the shock of the first months of the pandemic in Brazil, production rose 69.6%. The automakers closed the first half of the year with 1.15 million vehicles assembled, increasing 57.5% compared to the first six months of 2020.
The figures include passenger cars, light utility vehicles, trucks, and buses.
