Brazil registers 37,613 new cases and 1,106 Covid deaths (August 17)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Tuesday reported 1,106 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 570,598, the Health Ministry said.

There were also 37,613 new coronavirus cases, with the total number of infections in the country advancing to 20,416,183, the folder added.

According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks fifth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Cuba, Honduras, Mexico and Argentina. Worldwide, it ranks 18th.

The moving average of daily deaths over the past 14 days reached 869 on Tuesday, compared with a peak of nearly 3,000 in April.
