Covid-19: Brazil Counts 140,000 Deaths, 4.68 Million Cumulative Cases (September 25th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic rose to 4,689,613. In the past 24 hours, 31,911 new positive Covid-19 diagnoses were recorded. By Thursday, the total stood at 4,657,702.

The data were released by the Ministry of Health early on Friday evening, September 25th, in the daily update published by the portfolio.

According to the bulletin, the cumulative number of deaths from the pandemic reached 140,537. Between Thursday and Friday, 729 new deaths were recorded by the state Health Secretariats, keeping the average below the 1,000 daily deaths in recent weeks. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health’s system counted 139,808 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Health authorities are still investigating whether 2,430 deaths occurred as a result of Covid-19.

According to the update, 508,127 patients are under follow-up. The number of patients recovered from Covid-19 reaches 4,040,949. This represents 86.2 percent of the total number of patients infected with the novel coronavirus.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (34,877), Rio de Janeiro (18,166), Ceará (8,891), Pernambuco (8,129), and Minas Gerais (7,056).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (637), Acre (654), Amapá (699), Tocantins (910), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,234).
